You have heard by now that Platelet-Rich Plasma is very helpful for injured joints, tendons, and ligaments, but did you know that it will also help you grow hair? That’s right: new research shows that PRP can also generate hair from areas that are balding!
Researchers studied 11 male patients between the ages of 20 and 40 who all had significant male-pattern baldness and had failed a trial of topical minoxidil (Rogaine)1. They each had a total of 4 injections of PRP at 2-week intervals. Not only was there a dramatic reduction in hair loss, but the average number of hair follicles per square centimeter went up from 71 to 93, an increase of 30%!
To do a PRP procedure, I draw a small amount of blood from your arm and place it in a centrifuge. We are able to separate out the red blood cells, white blood cells, and plasma in order to isolate just the platelets, which are full of remarkable growth factors. After applying anesthetic cream to your scalp, I use a tiny insulin needle to inject PRP directly into your scalp in the areas of hair loss. The growth factors will attract stem cells into the area capable of “waking up” dormant hair follicles in order to grow new hair. PRP can also be used during or after a hair transplant procedure.
Although the study reviewed above involved only males, we are getting excellent results with PRP for women also! Contact my office today if you are interested in learning more about PRP. My staff at Pagdin Health will be happy to address your questions and arrange a free consultation.
