Platelet rich plasma is obtained from a sample of your blood. We typically take it from your arm at the elbow, the same place where blood would be taken when you go to the lab for a routine blood test. We only require one to two ounces of blood.
We put your blood into a special container that goes into a centrifuge. The centrifuge spins the blood in order to remove all of the white blood cells and red blood cells, and leaves us with a concentrated sample of your platelets. These platelets are what we are going to be injecting back into you in the area of injury.
